    THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

    Looking

If words can move mountains these words can move you

if you want them to. Yo, a femme once said I was too real.

My reaction? She ain't with me now nah mean.

Because if being real is wrong then I'm the wrong man

for women like her. So this joint is for a woman like you.

    Some say I'm prolific

    to be specific

    I just think alot,

but this joint ain't about makin heads bop

    grabbin my mop top

    or rockin the block

    with my skillz,

this is about the gift on arrival

    you entrusted me with survival

    and I almost killed

    You always said you wanted

    a brother with intelligence

and just a pinch of Thug mental,

    but the fundamentals,

    of being a Thug residential

    is that you one forever,

Holla If You Hear me brothers

    Even though I'm older,

I still look over my shoulder,

and face the door when I'm in restaurants,

    to me, it's elementary,

    some cats have long memories,

view my life as a documantary,

most of it wouldn't be complimentary,

    I'm just being real

When we met I tried alot of vibes

    that just wasn't me,

    with your Improve D'ee Course

    I was a consignee,

    maybe that was the rub,

I come from a place where you don't eat politely,

    you bust a grub,

most of the time after smoking a dub

    Anyway,

I played the role for a while,

    changed my agressive style

into that "Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand" mess,

    that was stress

    no doubt,

    I stopped going out

    with my partners,

    that was wrong for starters

    because all couples need space,

if not the little things that used

    to amuse you,

you start looking at with distaste,

like when I'm being sexually suggestive,

    at least that's my persepctive

I'm smooth when I need to be

but most of the time I'm rough,

you once said you dug that,

    said I was being real,

but then you judged my conscience

    and didn't offer an appeal,

    so there you have it,

only to the Great Spirit I kneel,

so what began with lust and zeal,

    slowly became an ordeal

I WASN'T FIT FOR THE ROLE YOU CAST,

I WOULD'VE LET THE RELATIONSHIP PASS,

    BUT THEN,

I SAW YOU CRYING THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS,

    AND IT HURT ME,

BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW YOU FELT ME LIKE THAT

    REAL RAP

    Ain't no recovery,

    when the discovery,

of two people who was meant to be,

    take an obligatory

    standing eight count,

    no amount

of love can repair bridges burned,

that's why I told you no matter

    what direction you turn,

    keep the bridge intact,

strange events can occur when love reacts,

    and interacts

    with the future

    We both been through enough

that we learned not to let the world see us down,

    but when ain't nobody around

    we both sagging,

one night I'm out with my boys braggin,

trying to find a femme for shaggin,

and then your face enters my mind,

    and it's distracting,

I guess that's what love can do

Ain't like you would ever know,

    unless I did something stupid,

and I've been with enough women

at one time I can prove it,

    but that's not the point,

I neve felt responsibility for someone

    like this before,

on the real the way you get angry

    and come at me,

other women I would have kicked out my door,

    not literally touch a femme,

    but you feel me

To me it's not about my intelligence,

    or avoiding residence,

    in the Pen,

    it's about my soul

and what I can do with this pen,

    people say I was lucky

to me it was God's Grace

    so I don't buy that,

    where a bullet hits

depends on the time and place,

    everybody in the ghetto know

    that science is inexact,

    for real for real

I know God let me live

    so I could give love

like the love I never had,

sometimes I think about my ex

    and it makes me sad,

because she had me before I was a grad student,

    I'm more mature now,

    so to me it's prudent

to lay it all on the line,

    will we be fine?

    who knows,

I mean. sometimes grass don't grow

    in the ghetto,

    sometimes it does,

    sometimes a man can't escape

    what he was

At least I'm smart enough to know,

    before you go wherever,

    and do whatever with whomever,

can I be arrogant for a minute,

    AIN'T NO BETTER THAN ME,

because at least I try to relate to you,

    know what I'm saying?

them cats you know who say all the right things

    is playing,

they got the game down pat,

and like the Godfather Rakim said,

"It ain't where ya from, it's where ya at"

and right now I'm here chilling with you nah mean,

so if the proof is in what you do,

    not what you say,

then I got nothing left to say

except I love you for real

I WASN'T FIT FOR THE ROLE YOU CAST,

I WOULD'VE LET THE RELATIONSHIP PASS,

    BUT THEN,

I SAW YOU CRYING THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS,

    AND IT HURT ME,

BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW YOU FELT ME LIKE THAT,

    REAL RAP
