His work permit expired
it was time 2 leave paradise
he took with him
an apple slice
and a cup of juice
he thought about the truce
he had made with the muse
and wondered if anyone on earth
could use
a man without words
separated from song
where do i belong
he asked 2 wordless skies
as a scroll of his
past sins and lies
were written in the clouds
once
he was so very proud
of the platitudes he received
now he was very much aware
of how much the snake deceives
he walked briskly
as the gates of heaven opened slowly
he bowed
2 the houses of the holy
sepulchre and thorny crown
nothing profound
no more great speeches left 2 recite
just an endless night
and a man without words
separated from his song
where did i go wrong
he asked the vastness of empty space
took a swig of juice
and savored the taste
he thought
how many men are blessed
2 even work a day in paradise
even when locked in
an inespacable vice
of a life
owned by the muse
maybe it was all a ruse
he thought cynically
and the only true friends
are those never meant 2 be
he was startled as he witnessed
jesus and the prophet muhammad
in a brotherly embrace
ah but he must chase
away the inspiration
4 upon being sentenced
2 the guilt of eternal damnation
he must return 2 earth
4 eternity
and remain a man without words
forever
separated from his song
