What do we surmise
when all are right
yet everything is wrong
what is strength if we
only apply it to the strong
what are we willing to forgive
when we neglect our faults
when a person is cut to the core
why do we apply copious amounts of salt
What is pride
when laced with blame
what is regret
when devoid of shame
what is honor
when dishonor is in vogue
why do we regail the princess
and ignore the rogue
why do we not admit
hatred is our true passion
why do we bemoan the lack of love
when through our actions
love is severely rationed
Why do we brunch with pomposity
amongst the maples and ferns
then attempt to discern
why bridges burn
When do we replace
a mirror with cracks
what can it reflect
why do we nail jesus to the cross
of our burdens then in sorrow genuflect
why do we we feel hopeless
when surrounded with hope
why do we choose to climb mountains
without securing the rope
why do we join the greek chorus
in wails of discontent
yet when jesus intones love thy neighbor
we steadfastly refuse to repent
what is the use in living
if living is spent
searching amongst the graveyard
for a delicate scent
Why should I cry
when you choose to laugh
why do you sigh
when I puncuate your sarcastic paragraph
when should we battle
why should we yield
why do we walk into battle without armor
and expect not to carried upon our shield
why do we speak of mysteries
and ignore the trees
why do we recite biblical analogies
yet refuse to bend our knees
why do you wonder
why I am filled with hate
why do you say you love me
much too late
I guess
such is fate
Why do we search for love
when love has grown tired
of being spurned
why do we use the profane
to proclaim
our right to use propane
and scream in horror
when the bridge finally burns
