    SHADE OF GRAY

    Gray

    4 quite some time now

you and i have been searching

trying 2 find a quiet place to breathe

    but everytime we chill

    the past is lurking

    waiting 2 deceive

    what can we believe

i want desperately 2 believe you

    when you say

    dee i love you

    but past relationships have kept

    my heart in chains

and when i say to you

    baby i am not him

    you can trust me

    you refrain

    recoil in pain

i wonder how could true love

have eluded such a special person

    when i think of you

    it worsens

    my  resolve

but when i hear the doubt

    in your voice creeping

    secrets i start keeping

    nothing is solved

    well

    when i am up

    you are right back down

    when i am silly

    you are  profound

    i live in the black

    you live in the white

    sunny days

    and stormy nights

    until the dam gives way

    flooded with regret

cant find a shade of gray

    cant live without me

i cant live with you today

    i run 2 you

    you walk slowly away

trust i know is such a unique distinction

2 many precriptions we have needed

    2 fight  old lovers colds

yet when i write  a love story

and say baby dont you know

we are the greatest story ever told

    you say no

    adam and eve were deceived

    that story  was sold

never let back into the fold

it always seems you and i

    are much better

living in our own privite security

    but eventually

    we must face the doubters

    after all

    that is reality

    we promise 2 never listen

yet 2 steps in we abort our mission

until we cannot be heard above

    the cacophony

    voices determined 2 drip with

    pure jealousy

only  purpose 2 separate you and me

    if love is not living

then what is the reason we live for it

    one day we adore it

    the next day we abhor

it seems as if  on sundays

it is so easy 2 love

    but come mondays blues

    it becomes a chore

you have tried 2 walk away

but i can see in your eyes

    you know there is more

    well

    i finally come around

now you are lost not found

    you shout my name

    i cant hear a sound

you cry the tears of a clown

i lament the past at the burial mounds

    until we have wasted

    yet another day

    failing 2 find that elusive

    shade of gray

paying too much attention to yesterday

until the angels of love grow

    tired of waiting and reluctantly

    fly away
