Viking

I come to you in tatters

mind, body and soul my triune

I once wrote to you using words from the gods

before an evil Germanic man stole the runes

You could not decipher my message

lost in translation during the continental shift

such is the folly of frivolous children

to be lost in paradise

only to accept false Utopian gifts

I wonder if you can hear me

once our voices carried upon the northern wind

yet over time my song of love was muted

dilluted by the coronation of our original sin

Such is love

or the lack thereof

when faithless fate tricks an unsuspecting mind

we retain the pit of petulance

leaving the fruits of our love labour behind

And

when the mountains

rose from the sediment

never were they an impediment

to our consecrated love

yet when the dove

died

the very first time she tried

to fly

in hopes of delivering an olive branch

you chose to look askance

thus

our torutred existence could not advance

beyond its intended interrment

in the caverns of Valhalla

I come to you now that nothing matters

ashamed of my family crest

doubting my very existence

though I have touched the stigmata

on the Savior's hands and chest

Before me

stands the Golden Tree

mourners amidst merriment and reverie

consigned they are to metaphor and allegory

while their minds replay a forgotten destiny

Marital Halls of the Chosen

revelers with drinking horn in hand

waiting anxiously for an alternative version of heaven

contemptuously ignoring wails emanating

from the church of forgotten woman and man

Why are we fractured humans hoping

for our soul's injunction

a brief reprieve

once you and I walked in the light of the King's Dominion

before contempt of virtue taught us to deceive

And

before the waters of March

filled vast empty basins

and mixed with the salinity

of a lover's anguished tears

no peer

no other woman

I placed above you

in the name of ghosts of Holy

I promised to love you

if need be die for you

my soul interred in the dark caverns of Valhalla

forevermore

or to be left upon the shores

of an Edenic Covenant consecrated in paradise

I come to you with no dersion

decisions

made now cast a light pale

only young hearts still bear the incisions

of long forgotten tales

Tell me why are the angels forming

inquiring why

we refuse to fly

perhaps you should tell them in all honesty

waxen wings inevitably melt

causing pure love to fall from forgotten skies

Why do I feel a cyaniding Rapture

from the apple cider your proffered

and I consumed

and why did you willingly allow the demon

to desecrate our love sign written in the runes

Only you and I knew the Cipher

and I held our shared virtue in high esteem

but now as my tongue tingles from ingesting the Salts of Ester

it is too late to redeem

lives lost to hapless hopes and decanted dreams

And

when the sun chose

to encroach upon its earth cousin

consecrating the coven

of witches and warlocks with but one evil decree

and the sea's restless tiding

now Valhalla is Rising

is capsizing

the Ark of Noah

prophesized in the Gensis of love

when the boa

constricted love when it was first torn

from the tattered remnants

of a lover's soul

leaving paradise

devoid of life

a shapeless void in a dark universe

forever mourned

by

an everlasting scorn
