upon this rock i stand sliently
peering at a tempestuous sea
once tranquil
now tense
to whom do i look for to be rescued
he alone is my defense
never shall i be tense
when adversity strikes
my soul takes flight
even when my heart conspires
against my mind
in him i find
a song of freedom
that i sing in tribute to his love everlasting
and if he refuses to answer my plea
i know it is not he
but i who is being punished
deemed unworthy
of salvation
whom do i trust alone
when i cry who bends down low
to hear my anguised plea
pulling me from traps enemies
have set for me
yes there have been times
i have been mocked and scorned
by my very own
yet he told me do be silent
and stand upon this
his rock of safety
and stand i shall
for only he can overlook my transgressions
and only he knows my heart
a heart full of mercy and forgiveness
but protected by a defense
that shall not ever be breached
by betrayal
upon this rock i hail
the voice of the beneficent one
as it resounds through the wilderness
of my aimless wanderings
compelling me to be the man i am
the man he has carefully created
the man who has demostrated
pride in the face of pestilence
passion in the face of perversity
proven am i worthy
when surrounded by enemies
as i stand upon this rock
no one can touch me
for this is my tower of safety
standing alone i see the clouds part
revealing my insignificance
yet affirming his brilliance
knowing it is my strength he rejoices in
and my weaknesses he admonishes
for he made me as i am
clothed my soul with the splendor
of his fame and honor
pardons the many diatribes i unleash
warns me of the beast as it lurks
in my presence
and never has he demanded gifts
never has he questioned my purpose
no
he reminds me constantly of my purspose
to him
a purpose i have yet to fulfill
this quill
in my hand
these words from a simple man
this heart rebuilt
this soul free of grime and silt
this spirit that flies
this warrior who refuses to die
until i am called to rest
by him
and until then i will stand proudly
shout praises to his magesty
for who among you can truly touch me
while i stand securely
upon this
my fathers rock of safety
