over there
she and i began a sweet affair
such a perfect pair
i declare
yes i do
the concierge
lead us to our room
a honeymoon
suite designed for bride and groom
a respite
from the mid winter gloom
when i hold her in my arms
i laughed
when she wondered aloud
whether a chair was red or maroon
and she smiled in that special way
that first took my breath away
i admit she stole my heart
at the very start
since we met we have never been apart
and to think
it all began on a lark
somewhere
over there
the night we met
began rather swell
my friends and i attended a cabaret
at a mid town hotel
and when she walked into the room
she took my breath away
yes she did
how should i approach her
what exactly should i say
what words should i use to convey
i really didnt have a clue
until
you belong to me was played
by donny hathaway
so i used no preamble
or lyrical bouquet
obeyed
absolutely none of the rules
from the tried and tired
players school
and soon her initial caution
was overruled
when she and i danced
by the pool
somewhere
over there
what began
as a rather innocent flirt
between two somewhat
reclusive and private introverts
became a conversation
in detail
of love and hurt
the trials
the trevails
yes indeed
the pitfalls
one cannot avert
the lying and betrayal
that tends to disconcert
we talked all through the night
as the waiters served wine
and dessert
i wave goodnight
to our favorite hotel clerk
as she and i walk arm in arm
so happy
so alone
no stress or ringing phones
just the mingling
of perfume and cologne
me and my darling
sweet cymone
with passion as our chaperone
making love all day and night
somewhere
over there
