OVER THE OCEAN, FAR AWAY (a reggae love riddim)

    Ocean

    one month of heaven

    eleven months of hell

i appeal to the heavens for blessings

    but only time will tell

    these other girls  aint doing

    nothing  for me at all

i am addicted to my lady

    and without her

    i go through love withdrawl

    i thank the lord almighty

for bringing she into me life

    she is not jesus christ

but i wouldnt deny her love no

    not once

    not twice nor thrice

i feel heaven on earth with her

    everytime a  kiss is completed

and i climb the stairway to paradise

    everytime those kisses are repeated

    i remember little things

like how  she spread her guava jam

and the twinkle  in she eyes

when we eating oysters and clams

    dancing to  lovers reggae

with nothing between us but her nightdress

    making  sweet love

to the sounds of the island

    leaving no emotions unexpressed

    but now  she is

    over the ocean

    far away

    i remember wiping her tears

    as we lay

    begging her baby please

    wont you stay

now all i can do is pray

that the  lord almighty will bring her

    permanently  back to me

    one fine day

she  will be visiting round about

    the end of july

for now all i have is her picture

and the morning greetngs of passerby

    ian  and leo tell me

come wit dem  to the dancehall

but i cant pay no mind

    to dem other girls

when with she i am enthralled

i go  down to me mother

and try to eat my favorite rice and fish

there is a nagging in my island heart

    that persists

what if she  visits this time

and our love is not the same

i know god does no wrong

so i will have only myself to blame

    my brothers say

boy ya still young and handsome

    i know you love her

    but stop mekkin sport

what you doing to yourself is wrong

but i cant  explain to them why i sigh

when i hear a beres hammond song

    all i think about

    is me belle

    michelle

and anticipate one month of heaven

to endure eleven months of hell

    as long as she is

    over the ocean

    far away

    i remember wiping her tears

    as we lay

    begging her baby please

    wont you stay

now  all i can do is pray

that the lord almighty will bring her

    permanently  back to me

    one fine day

    that the lord almighty

will bring her back to me

    always and forever

    one fine day
