    Never Home (Again)

    Homage_to_family
    Early Sunday morning
    I kissed my only child
Left a note on the fridge
    Baby
I'll be back in a while

    4 my Momma
    Lord knows
    I would do anything
She asked if I would attend
    Sunday service
    And listen 2 her sing

    The Church ain't really changed
    Yet
    It doesn't feel the same
    My nostalga like the candlewax
    On the floor
    Is just a permanent stain

    Greeted my Mother's friends
    They asked
    Boy where U been
    With all due respect Aunties
    I've been searching 4 a Sancutary
2 rest my troubled soul in

    My Aunite Bell kissed me
    And said remember
    With Him
    You never walk alone
    I returned her sweet kiss
But I felt in my bones
    Home
    Would never be
    Home
    Again

    Driving back 2 her house
    Momma said
    Baby
    Take the long way home
    You're so busy these days
All we do is talk on the phone

    She filled me in
All about the ups and downs
    Of our Bajan Clan
E Dog tryin 2 keep on the narrow
Little Jr. Gettin slightly out of hand

    Told her I would
    Reach out him
    'Cuz all it took
Was 4 me 2 log into my friends
    He always chats on Facebook

    Found a parking spot
    Momma said
    Let's sit 4 a while
    And asked
    Dee whatever happened
    2 my little son's smile

    I hugged her
With all the love I had
    Yet
    I felt so sad
    And alone
    I couldn't admit 2 my Dear Momma
    Home
    Would never be
    Home
    Again

    Since his stroke
    My daddy can barely speak
But he always opens his arms
    And smiles
    Everytime we meet

    I sat down
    And held his calloused hands
    Felt Daddy's frustration
    That we couldn't talk
    Man 2 man

    He knew something
    Was bothering me
    That I refused 2 explain
    Kissed him on the forehead
    2 reassure him
    But I felt his pain

    Never was I one
    2 go running in need
Rather than react 2 pain outwardly
    I internally
    Bleed

    U see
    Though I love my Brothers
I was hurt by their petty whispering
    Tried 2 ignore the signs
    Until I felt resigned
    2 the message they send
    Home
    Would never be
    Home
    Again

    My Brothers heard
    That I was over
    And said
    We're on our way
    Told my Momma
    Okay
    But on the real
    I didn't want 2 stay

    They came
    We hugged
    But it wasn't the same
    How can you call me
    Your brother
    If you kickin
    Undercover
    Game

    Momma sensed a separation
    She couldn't reconnect
    And she began 2 cry
    Just put her head down
    And asked Dear God
    Why

    Daddy got upset
    And we became concerned
But when a bridge 2 Brotherhood
    Rots from neglect
It's a blessing when it burns

    Looked into my Brothers eyes
    And whispered 2 Daddy
We ARE family until the end
    But I knew deep down
    Home
    Would never be
    Home

    Again
