    MYTHOLOGICAL LOVE

    Love1

we have nothing left to fight for

    nothing left to gain

on a shoal so barren and isolated

    only tears in heaven drain

    i  genuflect in your presence

forever you will be my ethiopian queen

    exalted by the constellations

    while traversing the summer solstice

    in a palanquin

    an isolated and intense emotion

    never will i deny

    amazing how the rains fall

upon the plains of the srengeti

    each and everytime you cry

i see you in graceful motion

that beatific smile as you pirouette

the days bathed in sunshine  we remember

    the hurricane of conflicting  emotions

    we refuse to soon forget

and when kintu lived alone upon this earth quite lonely

nambi the daughter of gulu came to the earth

and fell in love with him

and though gulu the ruler of sky

thought kintu too poor and ignorant

the bond of kintu and nambi

    eased the heavenly fathers trepidation

    and now the saharan winds

    sing a hymn

    of everlasting love

    are  there any valid reasons

the sane dive into a malestrom of love

    and its unpredictability

ironic how we know more of the stars

    in the heavens

than the ever changing tides of love

upon this earths restless and stormy seas

    rest your head my lovely

this too shall come to pass

    ignore our loves burning embers

concentrate instead upon the timeless devotion

we sought  while racing against the desert sands

    in the hourglass

    exalted you will remain

the court waits in breathless anticipation

while you summon the vestal virgins

to consumate the intensity of your

    feelings of frustration

    and when alcmene

    the mother of hercules

mated with zeus who was wearing a perfect disguise

    thinking she had finally found

    the perfect mate

they made love to a celestial serenade of perfect harmony

yet unknowingly she became victim of a hegemony

    a cultural  imperialism

from which her soul would never escape

the salt of our tears form twin pillars

    that pantomime

    you the solo dancer

    i the narrative chorus

    beseeching the devine

    our movements  once so expressive

now our steps defined by a certain nervousness

in the shadows of the theater

i see you and i as we pantomime  one last kiss

the rain falls upon all that our love justified

soothing two souls scorched by fates denial

    i stand  before the angels

    feeling very much like socrates

preparing to face my final trial

    no intimate  intrusions

we kept our love secret until the end

no need to turn back and face

    sodom and gomorrah

    we end as spiritual lovers

    yet forever remain everlasting friends

    and when aphrodite

    the goddess of beauty

    love and pleasure

    sought the erotic pleasures

of adonis she refused to release him

    from her intimacy

    in love she was totally

    and though ares

in a jealous rage disguised as a boar

    killed adonis

the ashes of a love so  innocent and completely honest

have been scattered upon the confluence

    of the tigris and euphrates

while the jealousy of ares burns in hades

    the bottomless pits of hell

    when i speak to you

    i sense a sorrow

but our love should not be mourned

from the dust of an edenic paradise

our expectation of love was formed

so smile for all of the great times

    the laughter and the freedom

never did we not submit what was owed to ceasar

never like judas did we commit a love treason

    the morning skies awaken

    parting to release the warmth

you and i will forever share

so strong we were as solo  artists

    quite indomitable as a pair

as i meditate i kiss the heavens

for all you have meant to me

for sharing a love far beyond all earthly boundaries

a love to be forever spoken in mythology

    and when  ohsun

    the orisha of love

    beauty and  intimacy

    feels the slightest  animosity

though kind she will cause  destruction

    wherever she decides to go

    only shango the king dancer

    undergod  of lightning and thunder

    can quell ohsuns anger

and allow her soul to escape into the throes

    of an everlasting love

    you and i

a confluence of a shared astrological

    yes we did the impossible

so many thought our love illogical

now forevermore we will be honored

    in the mythological

as two people who once defined

     the meaning of true love
