    MIGUELITA

Miguelita, how long I have searched for you,

during the procession of Kings I witnessed

you ascend into the night skies,

    and the fireflies

paused in their courtship dance to spell your name,

    then, suddenly, a splendid rain

    fell upon the consecrated earth

Miguelita, how my heart overflows with joy,

my words are perfumed with honeysuckle and myrrh,

the Harvest Moon beckons her child from the fields,

    and the yield

of my tears and sorrow I pass to you for blessing,

oh, but the clouds obscure the sky when you are undressing,

    patiently I will wait,

for who among us truly resembles God

    Miguelita, no lloro' me abuelo,

my grandfather did not weep until your royalty

delighted the beauty of his heart,

    and the sparks

of the firelight's burning embers circled the moon,

    while you with your loom

created a tapestry of undying love

Miguelita, your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds,

please may I in the absence of a loving one

take refuge in the shadow of your wings,

    and may precious things

sapphire, ruby, pearls and diamonds fall from the clouds,

as you slowly remove your shroud,

revealing to the world your beautiful face

Miguelita, may your love be my eternal home

when you hear my heartfelt wailing please listen to the cry,

and when days pass me by

bless my lips with a kiss when I sleep,

beseech your Father, the Love Supreme

to bathe my tortured soul in peace,

    patiently I will wait,

    for who among us,

    truly resembles God

*this piece was inspired by the iconic poem PESO ANCESTRAL by Alforsina Storni. The verse "no lloro' me abuelo" is derived from that poem. Also, the Psalms of David gave texture to this modest work. This poem is dedicated to love in all of its many forms.

                                                                thank you
