Well,
I've played so many concerts
from Albuquerque to Abilene
at rodeos and reunions
and roadhouses in between
ain't had much time 4 lovin
'cept the hit and run kind
b'cuz everytime I stop 2 consider
it's time 2 head on down the line
They call it Country Music
but it's really music of the soul
for the farmers in Nebraska
and the miners of that West Virginia coal
Now,
I ain't got nuthin against the city
bright lights they sho nuff shine
but my soul ain't never satisfied
'till I smell that Ponderosa Pine
My momma always said
life ain't worth a plug nickel
I ya can't find someone 2 sing
2 the melody of love's music
when you're pluckin them heart strings
Well,
I've made some stops in Memphis
visited the brithplace of Elvis
in Tupelo
listened 2 jazz in New Orleans
and sang the blues in Chicago
been on the Mississippi
God bless that Mighty Brown
borrowed Ray Bob's binoculars
on the banks saw the Indian burial grounds
Have some folks who travel
everywhere I go
like family
the've become 2 me
they've been 2 every show
we sit sometimes after concerts
have some bar-be-que
and share a taste
then I pull out my harmonica
ans start playin Amazing Grace
My friend Belle is always askin
when I'm gonna settle down
I say, Belle I'd like 2 to
but ain't no kind of steady life
travellin' from town 2 town
But my momma always said
life ain't worh a plug nickel
if ya can't find someone 2 sing
2 the melody of love's music
when you're pluckin them heart strings
2 the meoldy of love's music
when you're pluckin them heart strings
