    HAVANA SUNRISE

    Havana

    i see a child

    searching for a secret place

    desperately seeking anonymity

where all memories can be erased

    i see your face

    the morning light bends

    illuminating your reflection

    the windows of my mind

    are  barred for fear

of being subject to your detection

    the shadows lie

    making my image  appear

    much larger than my lifetime

send in the clowns mr sondhiem

as i prepare to live within

    this paradigm

    this morning i thought

the child was finally free to cry

but as i stand on the shore

    i feel the reprise

    of another havana sunrise

    aqua  blue

    and tangerine

    cotton  candy

    and sweet  pralines

    the smile

    of a child

    slowly fading

    watching the carnival leave town

    in the corner

    i see a clown

    leaving behind his faux crown

    magenta blue

    evoking hues

of  wavelengths in shades of red

    no roses in bloom

upon rocks  they were carelessly strewn

    during the total eclipse

    of the havana moon

    i see a child

    lingering on a melody

    once so suite

    yet reality beckons from shadows

    as demons prepare to feast

    on innocence in urban streets

    i see your face

    as the mid city lights

    relfect my lost years

over the ocean  a storm is brewing

i hope the rain will disguise

the accumulation of my faithless tears

    so many memeories lie

the truth i have not known

    though my soul objects

    finally alone  i stand peacefully

    on an island

    where heaven and hell intersects

the moment the child in me

thought he knew the reasons why

    innocence waved goodbye

    and so with a sigh

i turn to feel the reprise

    of another havana sunrise

    turquoise

    and indigo

    a touch of violet

    in a rainbow

    the smile

    of a child

    never  to return

    his stomach steadily churns

    watching the carnival leave town

    as a clown

    finishes his cigarette

    leaving behind a faux crown

    yellows

    and moody greens

    a spectrum of light

    in a multi colored arc

    upon the rocks

    i see noah ark

    olive branches carelessly strewn

    many loose their bearings

during the total eclipse of havana moon

    never again

    a child of angels

    never wanting to realize

    no need to ask why

    as i close my eyes

and prepare to feel the warmth

    of another havana sunrise

    as i close my eyes

and prepare to feel the warmth

    of another

    havana  sunrise
