    ANGELS LOST (IN OUR MIDST)

    Lost

    One day soon

    I pray we will rise

to dry the tears in a little girl's eyes

    her mother acts unaware

    little one feels

as if no one really cares

but her little brown teddy bear

"Don't worry Snuggles I won't let him hurt you"

    the little girl says

the fear in her tummy begins

    when it's time for bed

    Her mother drinking into oblivion

to erase the pain of a worthless life

    always muttering

"I should have been your father's wife"

    Little one hides Snuggles

    as her mother's boyfriend

    enters the room

    hoping that, unlike last night

    he will finish soon

    she hopes secretly

     that Snuggles cannot see

    praying

"Dear God, please hear my plea"

    WHAT CAN WE DO

TO PUT AN END TO THIS

    I AM TIRED OF SEEING

    ANGELS LOST IN OUR MIDST

    One day soon

    I pray we will rise

    to dry the tears

    in a little boy's eyes

his mother lost custody due to drug use

    the abuse

    began in foster care

the woman of the house counts her money

from the state and acts unaware

    Little one's older foster brother

    was molested as a child

    somehow this horrible act

    escaped the social worker's file

    so many cases

    so little time

    Dear Lord,

    please send us a sign

    Megan's Law

    can only do so much

    in a society

    that remians out of touch

    yes,

    natural disasters cause national alarm

    but

our most precious commodities are being irreparably harmed

    Little one's foster brother

    takes him by the arm

whispers in little one's ear with Satanic charm

I will let you play with my Nintendo Wii

    as little one cries silently

    "Dear God, please not me"

A tear I've shed for every verse I write

hoping and praying we will see the light

    for, child molestation is rising

and if it continues to persist

    we will lose

    more ANGELS IN OUR MIDST

    FACTS:

Aquaintance pretators are the most common abusers

    constituting 70-90% of all cases.

Average time served for sex offenders: 3 to 5 years

The effect on the victim of sexual abuse: A LIFETIME
